This Means War!

I was channel surfing the other night and wasted a precious few seconds of my life on Headline News. Nancy Grace's show was on, and one of the million pieces of text floating around the screen was the subject line "War On Women". The talking heads were yapping about some news anchor lady that had been murdered in her neighborhood.

I don't know who this person was, and I'm sorry she's no longer with us, but seriously, a War On Women? Is there really a war on women in the United States of America? A woman had a serious shot at becoming the President. A women currently holds the title of Speaker of the House, two women have been Secretaries of State.

I'm not saying that women don't have disadvantages compared to men. The glass ceiling is all too real, even if cracking. But as serious as gender inequality is, is it a war?

We have a lot of wars in America it seems. A war on terror. A war on drugs. War on the middle class. It was thought that WWI was the war to end all wars.

Except that a war against war is still war.
What does it accomplish to be against things? Why not be for something?
Instead of a war on terror, how about supporting stability and security?
Instead of a war on drugs, why not pursue sobriety and health?
Instead of a war on war, pursue peace, or at least cease-fires and armistices?
And instead of rambling about a war on women, remember that men get murdered too.

And the men that don't get murdered don't live as long as the women that don't get murdered.
